Roasting a Whole Chicken – LIVESTREAM

If you know me, you might know these two things about me:

  1. Prior to 2020 I was terrified to be on camera (so much so that I once ditched a five part cooking video series I created because I couldn’t stand the way I looked and my squeaky voice on camera!), and MORE IMPORTANTLY…

  2. I LOVE to talk about cooking, share cooking, show people how to cook.

On September 15, 2020, mid pandemic, the second of these things took over and I decided I had waited long enough to do the thing I love… teach people about cooking.

And so it began – 37 weeks of livestream cooking which started the same way my 5-part video series started: ROASTING A WHOLE CHICKEN.

For me roasting a chicken is one of the fundamental lessons in cooking at home. And here’s why:

  • It’s the best place to start talking about how to use ALL the parts of your food to reduce waste and to get the most flavor out of the foods you make. In this case the chicken itself, the bones, the skin etc.

  • It’s a helpful starting point for working with browning food to deepen the flavors and add depth to sauces.

  • It’s a good way to start handling food in it’s natural state and getting used to that.

  • It tastes delicious

  • It’s an easy dish to feed your whole family in just around 1 hour.

So we started with the chicken, and as a first time live-streamer, chaos ran supreme – the doorbell rang twice, the dog was barking, my glasses fogged up…. but that’s what cooking is actually like and what this is all about. This is real life.

Let me know if you make a whole chicken at home and what you think.
